Theme Y
In my opinion Theme Y seems to hold much closer to the theme, while Theme X comes across more as a graphic design of a magazine.

Yeah, I tried a couple of colors but liked turquoise best. I thought that a blueish color might be a most neutral one in a way.

Bianca, the reason I didn't name who's design was which was so that it was anonymous. Only three people know which one is mine and that includes you and Jo. Oh well I guess it is too late now.

I meant my first comment in general because I wouldn't have described the colour as green and I doubted my monitor xD.
In my second post I thought like andrew that ross knows who did which theme.
Besides that I didn't know that it was supposed to be anonymous because we all know each other more or less - even if here are obviously people from different courses.

I'll give you that. I also think too much space is given to navigation. Our work is surely the focal point, yet we have this rather slender column to display it in.
In saying that, remove the heading and change the colour and it's not too bad.

I would say that Theme Y has plently of room to work with regarding images. As far as i was aware we are only viewing the home page just now and i dont expect to see an over follow of images where the latest news and tasks are ment to be.

But it's a theme. It's consistent throughout. The layout of the homepage will be exactly the same as the layout of an individual posts page, where we will be expecting an overflow of images.

I can see what your saying regarding the size and it need be it would be easy to widen the width of the layout. But that wouldnt have to be done as a rollover gallery could easily be designed in html and css to cut down on taking up room while being able to have fully blown up images viewed at the same spot with just a click of a button.

I just did a pixel width count Theme X and Theme Y have the same width they are just positioned differently on the layout.

Less about the width of the image, more about a lack of distracting features on X, when you take that background away anyway.
Images could be Lightboxed, but I got the impression the idea was to have the images as the main focus rather than using thumbnails.

I like the background. Could be with being less bold, but it's better than white space.
I'm really not a fan of Lightbox. Well I can understand it if you want to see the image much larger. But i'd much rather just be able to see all the work on the one page rather than clicking through thumbnails. Which is why I like Jonnys. He uses the full width for the image, leaving it at a very reasonable size for viewing.
Currently 3-5 in favour of Biancas.

Theme x looks more modern and designy where as theme y looks like its for older people. I think its just the background on y that i don't like. Maybe come up with other variations on that?
I say THEME X unless the background can be changed on y?

X is cool but im more of a muted colour person and not so fond of the pink in the banner but i really like the lay-out and background- impact and lets the images speak for themselves. Y is good- i like the colours but maybe a bit too dull. i like the page bit down the middle coz it looks like a sketchbook but the 'GRAY' font isnt good. overall my vote goes to X coz it's better overall design but less neony. x

Yes, that's clear enough. It's just difficult to judge which way someone is swaying when they are like "I like this of x and I like this of y". Then when it comes to counting votes you're like so which one? :P
